Call for Applications Roma Access Programs – Sigrid Rausing Trust Internship Grants

December 5, 2016

Deadline for application: April 10, 2017

Eligibility and Host Institutions

CEU RAP will award, on a competitive basis, eight to ten internship grants annually. Applicants must be currently enrolled students or graduates of the Roma Access Programs, preferably from the 2015 or 2016 academic years.

Each intern must identify his/her host institution or seek advice from the RAP office. Examples of possible host institutions include, but are not limited to, international Roma NGOs, human rights organizations, institutions of the European Union, research centers or professional organizations (banks, consulting firms, etc.). Areas of work may include policy-making, advocacy, project management, professional development, social work, and education, among others. Grants may supplement co-funding, either through host institutions or other means.

Applicants may request grants for internships lasting from two to four months and ending before December 2017. Longer term internships will be considered on a one-to-one basis.

All applicants must carry out their internships with host institutions outside Hungary, with the exception of those RAP students or RAP graduates with a current student status at CEU till August 31, 2017, who may carry out their internships within Hungary.

Selection Criteria

Internship grantees will be selected through a competitive selection process based on the relevance of the internship to the applicant’s career goals, the reputation and visibility of the host institution, and the cost-effectiveness of the internship. Grantees must conduct their work in English within the host institution.

Grants

Individual internship grants will cover the following costs

  • travel to/from the host institution/organization, including visa costs, if applicable
  • accommodation for the period of the internship
  • local transportation
  • health insurance

The internship grant does not cover living costs. Successful applicants will need to self-finance their living expenses or look for alternative funding to cover these expenses (for example, host institutions).

How to apply?

Please complete the RAP Internship Application Form and send it by email to rap@ceu.edu together with an updated CV and a motivation letter, covering the following points:

  • Briefly describe the organization where you would like to carry out your internship activities and the reasons why you have chosen the organization
  • Describe the aims of the internship and the potential tasks during the internship (this is particularly important for those applicants who seek internships that were not announced through open calls by host organizations)
  • Describe how  the internship will further your career plans
  • Propose a time-frame for the internship (this should be between two to four months – in exceptional cases we can also consider internships that require a different time-frame)

Budget Preparation

Please provide the following supporting documentation for all budgeted expenditures requested from RAP:

  • For travel expenses please look for the most economical train or flight option and attach a printout of a quote (secured online or from a travel agent)
  • For accommodation costs, please consult with the host institution and ask them for a written estimate or check online and provide a printed quote.
  • Please check if you require health insurance (if you are an EU citizen you may be covered in any EU member state).  If you do require health insurance, please find a quote online and include this in your supporting materials.

Please send your complete application package to rap@ceu.edu, subject line: SRT Internship Grants 2017.

Application packages are due no later than April 10, 2017.
