Abstract: Intersectionality is a theoretical approach and an analytical tool which explores how social identities such as race, ethnicity, social class, religion, sexual orientation, and gender identity overlap with one another. Moreover, intersectionality is characterized by its focus on systems of power that discriminate or privilege people because of these intersecting identities. This webinar explores the added value an intersectional perspective offers in the field of Minority Studies, and explores the challenges that we encounter when engaging with an intersectional approach, based on examples from discrimination and equality law, from Romani Studies and the challenges faced by Romani women, and in relation to religious belonging and gender.
