Research Travel Grants for ACRS Students

The Romani Studies program offers research grants to CEU students registered with the Advanced Certificate Romani Studies. The grants are intended to complement their departmental research travel grants and supplement their research costs specifically relating to the Romani Studies aspects of their field research, which may not necessarily be covered by their main departmental travel grant. The student grant applications will be accepted on an on-going basis throughout the academic year until June, as research must be completed by 31 July.

Eligibility: all MA and PhD students enrolled in the ACRS are eligible to apply.

Amount of support available: a maximum of EUR 250 per project.

Use of funds:  This research grant is intended to cover expenses relating to the travel to the location, local travel at the location, participation fees for conferences, visa costs, accommodation, travel insurance, library access, photocopying or material procurement, subscription costs, technical resources and other items justifiable as necessary to the proposed research and negotiated in advance with the head of the RSP.

Expenses not covered by this grant:  Anything that is not listed above must receive the pre-approval of the head of the Romani Studies Program.

Reporting: Within one month after the research has been conducted, the grantee shall submit a final 1-3 page report by e-mail to the RSP Chair KoczeA@ceu.edu and the RSP Coordinator Holbrooke@ceu.edu who will send it on to your departmental supervisor for approval. Once this 1-3 page summary of the research outcome is approved by your supervisor, the report will be sent on to the GMO so CEUBPF may close the grant transaction.

Application Process: To apply for this support, RSP requests you send the following to the ACRS Academic Coordinator Esther Holbrook (Holbrooke@ceu.edu)

1. A detailed research plan (one page)
2. A research timetable (one page)
3. A summary of preparations (who you plan to meet, where you plan to go, any complications that you are aware of)
4. A complete budget detailing all the planned use of funds and how much you are asking for
5. Please briefly explain in your documents the request’s relevance to your thesis and why the funds cannot be obtained/covered by other means.

Application Timetable:

1. Throughout AY, ACRS students may submit proposals to Romani Studies
2. The ACRS Grant Committee approves grantees on a first come, first served, case-by-case basis. They will answer the student's request within two weeks.
2. Should a student's grant request be accepted, a CEU research grant application form will be prepared with the help of the RSP and submitted to CEU Grants Committee by the deadline (see the current academic year's schedule below*). You will also be required to produce a recommendation letter from your supervisor.

You will be informed of the decision within days after the CEU GMO Grant Committee Meeting takes place.

Should you have any further questions on the procedure or what is covered, please do not hesitate to contact Esther Holbrook (Holbrooke@ceu.edu)
