Judit Ignacz RGPP 2015-2016

Judit is Hungarian and she studied French and Romology at the University of Pecs. She was part of the RELP in 2014-2015, and she is taking tutoring in Public Policy.

“My career ambition with the help of RGPP is to develop my English knowledge to an academic level and to improve my critical thinking and analytical skills, which is an indispensable condition of my main goal: to study further at the MA level in the field of Public Policy.

In 2009, I took my GCSE Gandhi High School, which allowed me to learn in details about the Roma culture, languages, history, ethnography and had an important role in making my Roma identity become more mature and conscious. In 2013, I received a BA at the Faculty of Arts, specializing in French and Romology Studies at the University of Pécs.

Besides my academic studies, I was always actively involved in youth work, which gave me the opportunity to implement my acquired knowledge into practice and to make an attempt to narrow the distance between Roma and non-Roma. As a Romology student, a volunteer and team member of Phiren Amenca NGO, I took part in the planning and coordination process of numerous national and international conferences, roundtable discussions, tolerance and Roma culture teaching with cooperative methods in high schools and different seminars related to stereotypes, discrimination and racism of Roma people. In the case of this kind of projects, I really feel that I have made unquestionable progress and steps to pulling down of stereotypes and because of the tangible results; I feel my efforts were useful and valuable.

As a member of Roma ethnicity, I consider it vital to reduce prejudices against Roma. I imagine a segregation-free world and to achieve this vision, the international environment and the high quality of education provided by RGPP could help me the most. CEU connects intellectual Hungarian and foreign Roma youngsters, who have the possibility to share their opinions, to debate, to learn from each other in order to make steps together for the Roma community in national and international contexts.

One of the reasons why I applied to be a student of Roma Graduate Preparation Program at Central European University is to prepare my English and academic knowledge, in order to study further in the field of Public Policy, to try to connect practice and theory. I would like to broaden my knowledge regarding possible educational projects that can help Roma people to improve their situation and to change the image of Roma in the eye of the majority society.”
