Edlira Majko graduated from our Program (RAP at that time) in 2007. She then went to pursue a Master’s degree in International Relations and European Studies at CEU. Upon graduation she went back to Albania where she worked for the European Roma Rights Centre and then later for the Albanian Institute for International Studies. In the last 10 years, she has been working for the Open Society Foundations, initially at the Roma Initiatives Office and recently the at Education Program.

15 years ago, I applied for the program to improve my English and academic skills. The program not only equipped me with the necessary skills to be accepted and graduate at one of the most competitive programs at the time at CEU, but also gave me the opportunity for the first time to be part of a Roma student community.
A lot of things have changed in the last 15 years since I completed my studies. Although there are more opportunities for young Roma, this program remains one of the best opportunities for Roma graduates to pursue their academic advancememt in an international context and become part of a transnational Roma movement.

Edlira mbaroi programin tonë në 2007. Menjëherë më pas ajo vazhdoi studimet Master për Marrëdhënie Ndërkombëtare dhe Studime Evropiane në CEU. Pas diplomimit ajo u kthye në Shqipëri ku punoi për European Roma Rights Centre dhe më pas për Institutin Shqiptar për Studime Ndërkombëtare (AIIS). Në 10 vitet e fundit ajo punon për Fondacionin e Shoqërisë së Hapur (OSF), fillimisht për Programin për Romët dhe së fundmi për Programin e Arsimit.
Para 15 vjetësh aplikova për programin RGGP për të përmirësuar aftësitë e mia akademike dhe të gjuhës angelize. Programi jo vetëm më pajisi me aftësitë e duhura për t’u pranuar dhe diplomuar në një nga programet më kompetitive në atë kohë në CEU, por më dha dhe mundësinë për të qenë për herë të parë pjesë e një komuniteti studentor rom.
Shumë gjëra kanë ndryshuar në 15 vitet e fundit që kur unë mbarova programin RGPP. Megjithëse ka më shumë mundësi për të rinjtë romë, ky program mbetet një nga mundësitë më të mira për të diplomuarit e rinj romë për të avancuar me studimet e tyre në një kontekst ndërkombëtar dhe për t’u bërë pjesë e një levizjeje evropiane rome.
