On November 4, 2025, the CEU Romani Studies Program hosted a powerful roundtable titled “From Microaggressions to Marginalization: Mental Health and the Psychological Impacts of Racism on Roma” The event took place at the Vienna Campus of CEU and was moderated by Professor Angela Kóczé, Chair of the Romani Studies Program.

Earlier in November, the Prisma Literature Prize was awarded in Malmö for the third year in a row. The prize recognizes and celebrates queer literature across six categories. We are proud to share that RGPP alumnus Arman Heljic from Bosnia received the award for co-editing Queera romer och resande: Berättelser från Norge, Sverige och Finland (Queer Roma and Travellers: Stories from Norway, Sweden and Finland), edited by Arman Heljic and Solvor Mjøberg Lauritzen, and published by Dikko Förlag.

November 5 World Romani Language Day

The Romani language holds a unique place in our department. Since the mid-2010s, we have been offering elective Romani language classes, and some RGPP participants are themselves Romani language teachers. Over the years, we have also added Romani translations to parts of our website. Each April 8, during International Roma Day, the events and student/alumni-lead initiatives highlight the role of language.
