Application Deadline: May 13, 2016
Central European University’s Roma Access Programs (RAP) invite applications from students and recent graduates of the Roma English Language Program (RELP) and the Roma Graduate Preparation Program (RGPP) for internship grants, generously supported through a 3-year gift from the Sigrid Rausing Trust. This opportunity is designed to help assist RAP’s talented graduates to enhance their chances for continued education and meaningful employment through skills-development and real-world work experience.
Eligibility and Host Institutions
CEU RAP will award, on a competitive basis, up to eight internship grants annually. Applicants must be graduates of RELP or RGPP, preferably from the 2014 or 2015 academic years.
Each intern must identify his/her host institution or seek advice from the RAP office. Examples of possible host institutions include, but are not limited to, international Roma NGOs, human rights organizations, institutions of the European Union, or professional organizations (banks, consulting firms, etc.). Areas of work may include policy-making, advocacy, project management, professional development, social work, and education, among others. Grants may supplement co-funding through host institutions.
Applicants may request internship grants for internships lasting from two to four months and ending before the end of 2016. Longer term internships will be considered in exceptional cases.
Selection Criteria
Internship grantees will be selected through a competitive selection process based on the relevance of the internship to the applicant’s career goals, the reputation and visibility of the host institution, and the cost-effectiveness of the internship. Host institutions must conduct their work in English.
Preference will be given to:
- Applicants who have graduated within the last two academic years, 2014 and 2015, and those expected to graduate in 2016
- Applicants who have already secured an internship possibility and only require the necessary additional funding to be able to start and carry out their work.
- Internships outside the applicant’s home country, and outside of Hungary
Grants
Individual internship grants will cover the following costs
- travel to/from the host institution/organization, including visa costs, if applicable
- accommodation for the period of the internship
- local transportation
- health insurance
The internship grant does not cover living costs. Successful applicants will need to self-finance their daily living or look for other funders to cover these expenses (for example, host institutions).
How to apply?
Please complete the RAP Internship Application Form and send it by email to rap@ceu.edu together with an updated CV and a motivation letter, covering the following points:
- Briefly describe the organization where you would like to carry out your internship activities and the reasons why
- Describe the aims of the internship and the potential tasks during the internship (this is particularly important for those applicants who seek internships that were not announced through open calls by host organizations)
- Describe how the internship will further your career plans
- Propose a time-frame for the internship (this should be between two to four months – in exceptional cases we can also discuss internships that require a different time-frame)
Budget Preparation
Please provide the following supporting documentation for all budgeted expenditures requested from RAP:
- For travel expenses please look for the most economical train or flight option and attach a printout of a quote (secured online or from a travel agent)
- For accommodation costs, please consult with the host institution and ask them for a written estimate or check online and provide a printed quote.
- Please check if you require health insurance (if you are an EU citizen you may be covered in any EU member state). If you do require health insurance, please find a quotation online and include this in your supporting materials.
Please send your complete application package to rap@ceu.edu, subject line: SRT Internship Grants_2016.
Application packages are due no later than May 13, 2016.
