The Romani Language is spoken by approximately 3.5 million people in Europe and up to potentially an estimated 9 million people worldwide. Romani is also recognised by UNESCO as a Language in Danger: a vulnerable or endangered language needing protection and preservation. Although it possesses many dialects, it does not mean that Romani speakers from different countries cannot understand each other. This three-term series of courses aims to introduce students the basic grammar and vocabulary of Romani. By the end of the academic year students will be familiar with the grammar structures, have approximately 1,000-1,200 A2 level vocabulary, and be able to communicate with native speakers of Romani language and differentiate between the European Vlax and other dialects of Romani language.
