The summer course titled "New Frontiers in Romani Studies: Insights from Critical Race Theory" provided an opportunity for participants from all over the world to explore questions around racialization and racial oppression of Romani people in relation to other racialized populations in Europe. During the two-week course, we worked with a diverse faculty consisting of 9 international Roma and non-Roma scholars and Romani activists as guest speakers. To guide participants through fundamental notions such as race, anti-racist movements, CRT, ethical research, or diaspora, and to invite them to reflect on these key concepts' relevance to Romani activism, anti-Romani racism, and Romani Studies, the course was composed of pre-recorded lectures, live seminars, and discussions.
At the end of the summer course, participants developed their own projects, which was a unique opportunity to demonstrate key learnings, and to critically reflect on some of the difficult theoretical, legal, and practical debates highlighted by the instructors, guest speakers, readings.
