Katinka comes from Hungary. She graduated from Eötvös Loránd University in 2023 with a BA in German Studies. Her thesis focused on the historical and literary aspects of the Roma Holocaust. Now, she is studying at the Roma Graduate Preparation Program (RGPP) taking tutorial in history and Romani language to deepen her research on the Porrajmos. Katinka is going to apply to a 2-year MA program in Historical studies.
This is what Katinka says about her RGPP year so far:
As part of the program, I not only attend Academic English classes but also take a tutorial on a topic I choose based on my interests and future plans. In September, I decided to focus on history, and since then, I’ve been meeting with my tutor online twice a week. These sessions help me improve my skills, like writing (free writing) and reading (skimming, scanning, and close reading). We also analyze sources related to my topic, the Roma Holocaust. Since we attend the tutorial in small groups, in my case I am alone, I can shape my tutorial's content to fit my interests.

A program részeként az Academic English órák mellett lehetőségem van részt venni egy tutorialon is, amelynek témáját az érdeklődési köröm és továbbtanulási terveim alapján választhatom meg. Szeptemberben a történelem mellett döntöttem, és azóta heti két alkalommal online konzultálok a tutorommal. A foglalkozások a készségfejlesztésre összpontosítanak, különös tekintettel az írási technikákra (például free writing) és az olvasási stratégiákra (skimming, scanning, close reading). Emellett a választott témámhoz kapcsolódóan releváns elsődleges és másodlagos forrásokat elemzünk. Mivel a tutorialt egyedül látogatom, lehetőségem van szabadon alakítani a kurzustematikát, ami lehetővé teszi, hogy a saját érdeklődési területemre, a Roma holokausztra összpontosítsak.

Im Rahmen des Programms habe ich neben den Academic English-Kursen auch die Möglichkeit, an einem Tutorial teilzunehmen, dessen Thema ich entsprechend meinen Interessen und meinem Studienplan auswählen kann. Ich habe mich im September für Geschichte entschieden und habe seitdem zweimal pro Woche Online-Konsultationen mit meinem Tutor. Der Schwerpunkt der Sitzungen liegt auf der Entwicklung verschiedener Fähigkeiten, insbesondere von Schreibtechniken (wie Free Writing) und Lesestrategien (Skimming, Scanning, Close Reading). Daneben analysieren wir relevante primäre und sekundäre Quellen zu meinem gewählten Thema. Da ich das Tutorial allein besuche, habe ich die Freiheit, die Thematik selbst zu gestalten, was es mir ermöglicht, mich vollständig auf mein Interessengebiet, den Holocaust an den Roma, zu konzentrieren.
